1.The sisterly relationship between Katerina and Bianca is that of jealousy, rivalry and hatred. Although as the story progresses, they become slightly closer. There is evidence of this as the father said “Until Katerina gets a husband, you may not.” At first Bianca is annoyed at her father but as time and the story unfolds Bianca becomes increasingly more angry at her “Shew” of a sister.

    2. Baptista was quite an influence on their lives as they lived directly under him. What he said he meant.

    3. Baptista must have thought it would bring shame to his family name, or that he knew Bianca would never get married and wanted the best for her?

1.It is possible that they could of loved each other before, but now they hate each other because of the older sister but i think that even if the Kate did try to marry i think they would still have arguments.

    2. Not that much considering he couldn’t keep Kate under control at all. Because he favored Bianca.

    3. It wasnt his rule it was tradition that the older sister had to get married first.

    – Bianca and Katerina’s relationship wasn’t the best, Katerina was horrible to Bianca, but i think it was just pure jealousy because everyone wanted to marry Bianca and they all thought Bianca was beautiful and pure. But on the other hand the sisters both loved each other, they had a really bad way of showing it but when Katerina was getting married when she didn’t really want to Bianca looked worried and upset that her sister was made to marry someone, also when Bianca wouldn’t listen to her husband she showed her the right why to behave, it wasn’t a nice way to do it but there was some sort of love there, a love hate relationship.

    2. Was Baptista, their father, a strong influence in their lives? Why/Why not?
    – Baptista was a very big influence in Bianca’s life because she listened to him and obeyed her fathers wishes but Katerina didn’t have the same understanding with her father.

    3. Why did Baptista make it a rule for his daughters that the older one must be married first before the younger one?
    – because its tradition, it wasn’t Baptista’s choice it was a rule for most of the people.

    1. No they didn’t love each other. You can tell this because of when Katerina bashed Bianca because she was beautiful and she thought their father loved Bianca more than her. Also by the way they treat each other generally, they never say anything nice to each other and they are always arguing.
    2. He didn’t so much influence the way they acted and their characteristics but he was an influence on how there future was to be and who they were to marry.
    3. Because he didn’t want Katerina to be alone on Bianca’s wedding day? Or maybe it was because of how things were back then? Because in Bible times the oldest daughter had to marry first so maybe it was something similar to that.

  5. Eden says:

    1. It was sort of a love hate relationship, you could tell that they cared about each other and loved each other but they didn’t always show it. Bianca was always a lot nicer to Katarina then Katarina was too Bianca but you should tell deep down that Katarina cared about Bianca
    2. He was in a way that he controlled most of their life as in like he chose whom they should marry and things like that but its obvious that the two girls are nothing like their father.
    3. Because I guess he thought that was morally right and wanted to make it fair for Katarina.

    1. Katharina and Bianca had a rocky relationship, but they did love each other. Katharina was just over powering and didn’t know what love was, Bianca was more quiet and didn’t really fight back. But they really did love each other and that sort of showed in the end.

    2. Katharina and Bianca’s father was not really a big influence on their lives he just made decisions for them, like who they would marry and other important things.

    3. It was just what happened back then, the eldest would always get married before the younger one’s would get married.

  7. Shanae says:

The relationship between Kate and Bianca early in the book was tense. They did not get along and Bianca felt like Kate was a burden on her because she could not get married until she did. We can see this through Kate’s behavior towards Bianca when she hits her and mocks her for her choices. Later in the book their relationship improves this is because there is no longer a weight on Kate’s shoulders to get married and this leaves space for the girls to bond together. Although they never truly do love each other even after Kate is married because they now live separately and don’t see each other.

Baptista was a huge influence on the girls lives. He dictated to who they were allowed to marry and see. He also influenced their lives by making the rule that Kate had to be married first. This then created the toxic relationship between Kate and Bianca.

Baptista made this rule for a few reasons, firstly that was the tradition back then and secondly he did it so Kate would get married. If this rule wasn’t made Bianca would get married early and young and Kate would be left behind. So basically in his view this rule was there to benefit both girls.

    1. Describe the sisterly relationship between Bianca and Katerina? Did they love each other? What is the evidence of this?
Katherina and Bianca don’t like each other but they love each other like sisters and in the movie katherina was wiping Bianca.
    2. Was Baptista, their father, a strong influence in their lives? Why/Why not?
He had a very strong influence on them because he stoped them from fighting and made sure they had suitable husbands.
    3. Why did Baptista make it a rule for his daughters that the older one must be married first before the younger one?
So katherina was not alone for the rest of her life while Bianca was happily married.

  9. Mary says:

    1. The sisterly relationship between Bianca and Katherina didnt have much in common. Bianca was a flawless, humble daughter and Katherina the eldest was a sharp-tongued and short-tempered daughter, the shrew. I believe they loved each other but they didnt show any affection towards each other til the end. The evidence given, when Bianca wanted to get married and have a relationship but Katherina didnt want her to be happy so she continued to be a pain.

    2. Baptista was a strong influence in Bianca and Katherina’s lives; He guided and encouraged them to find a suitable, well groomed and a high status man to wed. Baptista also made a rule: The eldest, Katherina, must be married beforethe youngest, Bianca.

    3. Baptista made it a rule for his daughters that the eldest must be married before the youngest because Baptista prized his daughters and he knew Katherina didnt want an affiliation and that will stop and keep both girls away from marriage and keep tham at home. It was tradition

    OR

Baptista set this rule because he knew no man wanted to marry a shrew so he figured if Katherina was to get married he wont be stuck with her when Bianca is wedded.
